Senate Approves Resolution Honoring One of America’s Most Important Allies

WASHINGTON – Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, today released the following statement on the Senate’s passage of a resolution recognizing the 60th anniversary of the founding of the modern state of Israel and reaffirming the bonds of close friendship and cooperation between the United States and Israel:

“President Truman recognized Israel just eleven minutes after it declared its independence. Sixty years later, I’m glad to see the Senate stand together as one to recognize the anniversary of one of our most important allies. I congratulate the Israeli people and look forward to working with them as we strive for a peaceful resolution to conflicts in the Middle East.”

S. Res. 522, which was co-sponsored by all 100 members of the Senate, passed the Senate by unanimous consent.
