Alexander: U.S. Must Push for Democracy in Cuba
“America must use this moment as an opportunity to reaffirm our support for democracy in Cuba and freedom for a long-oppressed people.”
February 19, 2008 - WASHINGTON – Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, today released the following statement following Fidel Castro’s resignation:
“America must use this moment as an opportunity to reaffirm our support for democracy in Cuba and freedom for a long-oppressed people. Simply transferring authority from one dictator to another is not the sort of progress the Cuban people deserve.”
