Alexander Urges Swift Action on Bill to Prevent Terrorist Attacks
“I’m dismayed that the Democratic leadership in the House is choosing politics over our national security by refusing to even allow a vote on the Senate’s anti-terrorism bill.
February 14, 2008 - WASHINGTON – Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.), chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, today released the following statement on the House’s failure to take up and pass the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act reform bill approved in the Senate by a vote of 68 to 29 earlier this week:
“I’m dismayed that the Democratic leadership in the House is choosing politics over our national security by refusing to even allow a vote on the Senate’s anti-terrorism bill. Instead of quickly agreeing on a bipartisan bill to provide our intelligence community with the tools it needs, the House may leave America vulnerable to terrorist attack. The House should take up and pass the Senate’s bipartisan update to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act without delay.”
The current temporary FISA legislation expires on February 15.
